Network issues

List of common networks issues and how to fix them

Can't connect to the server

Wi-Fi

  • Make sure both the devices are connected, and on the same network
  • Make sure you're not on a guest network
  • If both the PC and the phone are on Wi-Fi, you could check if both of them are on the same frequency (2 GHz vs. 5 GHz)
  • Modifying your Wi-Fi connection could help
    • On your phone, open your Wi-Fi settings
    • Find how to modify your saved Wi-Fi network (try a long-press on it)
    • Click advanced options
    • Change the IP settings from DHCP to Static
      • (After testing, you can revert to DHCP to go back to normal)
    • Choose an IP address (e.g.: 192.168.1.100)
    • Set the DNS value to 8.8.8.8
    • Save
  • Your router could be preventing devices from communicating between them. You could search for one of these terms in your router settings and deactivate the option if not needed:
    • AP (access point) isolation
    • Client Isolation
    • Guest Mode
    • Port isolation

Firewalls

  • Try to temporarily disable your firewall
    • If this works, you'll need to add an exception for AudioRelay in your firewall's settings
    • Don't forget to re-enable your firewall afterward
  • If you're on Windows
    • Try to set your network profile to Private
    • If you unchecked the Add firewall rules during installation, reinstall the app and make sure this option is checked

VPN

  • If using a VPN app, make sure its settings allow LAN traffic
    • Enable options such as "Allow LAN traffic"
    • Disable options such as "Make invisible on LAN"

Troubleshooting

You can confirm that both devices can communicate with each other by sending pings (Try this app)

If you can ping successfully, and you've checked the suggestions above

  • Check that the port 59100 isn't used by another application. To find out, run the command netstat -ano | findstr "59100"
  • If you have Hyper-V enabled, check if 59100 is reserved by the system. Read more here

Lags and packet loss

  • If you don't need Bluetooth, deactivate it. It can cause interferences
  • Try to be closer to your router
  • Connect your PC via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi
  • Connect your PC and your phone via USB
  • If available, try to switch between 2 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks, pick whichever works best (5 GHz will probably be vastly superior!)
  • Try to change the channel of your Wi-Fi network (You can find the least congested channel via this app)
  • Simply disabling and re-enabling the Wi-Fi can help
